Our Process

Each piece from Bazooka Grooves is handcrafted from sustainably-sourced materials. Our pieces are made to order using 3D wax printing and casting in the Jewelry District of downtown Los Angeles. First, we make our designs using a 3D-modeling program called Rhino. We print our 3D design in wax and send it to the casting company. From there, the piece is finished, assembled, and stones are set, and custom details are implemented.

If you’re curious, here’s what the process looks like:

EARTH 7 – IMAGINATION-

This is the drawing board part of the process. We’re now in the realm of ideas where all things are possible. We create mood boards to present concepts for new pieces.

EARTH 6 – COLLABORATION-

Luis and I [Amandine] meet and share our ideas, doodling and sketching to communicate our different visions for each piece. We allow our collective imagination to run wild until we’re satisfied with the scale, shape, for comfort and practicality. Now, we’re ready to start printing.

EARTH 5-TRIAL AND ERROR-

Our first prototypes are 3-D printed in plastic. From here, we check for scale and design issues. Sometimes, a piece doesn’t meet our standards, so we scrap it.

EARTH 4 – LOST WAX CASTING-

If we’re happy with the design, we 3-D print it in wax. Our wax models are set on a “tree” and a kind of plaster called investment is poured into the mold. Now, the lost wax casting process can begin.

EARTH 3- FILLING-

The mold is heated and the wax is melted out and drained, leaving only an empty space. The sterling silver is poured into the cavities left by the drained wax. Once the metal is hardened, the investment shell is hammered to release the casting.

EARTH 2- FINALIZATION-

The completed piece is then polished, inlaid with stones, coated, and the final touches are implemented.
